 About the Journal  Top

The Journal of Medical Investigation and Practice (JOMIP) is a quarterly peer-reviewed international journal published by the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Abia State University. The journal’s full text is available online at http:// www.jomip.org. The journal allows free access to its contents and permits authors to self-archive final accepted version of the articles on any OAI-compliant institutional/subject-based repository. The journal makes a token charge for submission, processing and publication of manuscripts including colour reproduction of photographs.

There are page charges for JOMIP submissions and the journal also charges authors for colour reproduction of photographs. All manuscripts must be submitted online at http://www.journalonweb.com/jomip.

 Advertising Policies  Top

The journal accepts display and classified advertising. Frequency discounts and special positions are available. Inquiries about advertising should be sent to Medknow Publications. media@medknow.com. The journal reserves the right to reject any advertisement considered unsuitable according to the set policies of the journal. The appearance of advertising or product information in the various sections in the journal does not constitute an endorsement or approval by the journal and/or its publisher of the quality or value of the said product or of claims made for it by its manufacturer.

The Journal, however, grants to all users a free, irrevocable, worldwide, perpetual right of access to, and a license to copy, use, distribute, perform and display the work publicly and to make and distribute derivative works in any digital medium for any reasonable non-commercial purpose, subject to proper attribution of authorship and ownership of the rights. The Journal also grants the right to make small numbers of printed copies for their personal non-commercial use.

WRITING FOR JOMIP

Journal Of Medical Investigations and Practice, published quarterly by the Abia State University Medical Research Society (ABSU-MRS) and the College of Medicine and Health sciences, the journal aims to advance the frontier of biomedical sciences and encourage excellent clinical practice based on sound scientific papers. Invited review articles, case reports and other communications relevant to the practice of medicine will be published by the journal.

 Submission and Review Process  Top

A paper submitted for publication in JOMIP is considered on the condition that it is not simultaneously being considered by another journal and that it had not been previously published. These facts must be declared by te author(s) in a signed letter of submission.

All contributions are peer reviewed. All papers will be acknowledged with an indication as to their acceptance or rejection.

Copies of rejected papers will be kept for only three months, in case there is need for further consideration, and then returned to the author(S).

Material accepted for publication will be edited for literary errors. Provisionally accepted papers containing minor technical errors will be returned to the author(s) for corrections.

 Type Scripts  Top

Original articles should not exceed 2000 words with maximum of five tables or illustrations
Case reports should not be longer than 600 words with a maximum of two tables or illustrations and with no more than five references.
Correspondence, in form of comments relating to material in previous issues of the journal will be published in the “Letter to the Editor” section. Such letters must be brief and concise, should not exceed 600 words and with no more than three references. Other letters of general medical interest on topical or controversial issues may be published even though they are not associated with earlier items in JOMIP, “Letters to the Editor” are not acknowledged but are edited to ensure brevity and to correct literary error.

 Ethics, Consent and Permission  Top

Prospective studies on patients and volunteers require informed consent. Authors of such studies must indicate clearly in the text of the papers that informed consent was given and that the study was cleared by the local or hospital Ethics Committee.

 Protection of Patients' Right to Privacy Top

 

Identifying information should not be published in written descriptions, photographs, sonograms, CT scans, etc., and pedigrees unless the information is essential for scientific purposes and the patient (or parent or guardian, wherever applicable) gives informed consent for publication. Authors should remove patients' names from figures unless they have obtained informed consent from the patients. The journal abides by ICMJE guidelines:

1)     Authors, not the journals nor the publisher, need to obtain the patient consent form before the publication and have the form properly archived. The consent forms are not to be uploaded with the cover letter or sent through email to editorial or publisher offices.

2)     If the manuscript contains patient images that preclude anonymity, or a description that has obvious indication to the identity of the patient, a statement about obtaining informed patient consent should be indicated in the manuscript.

 

 Authorship Top

JOMIP will not accept “Gift authorship”. An author must have made significant contributions to the design and execution and/or analysis and writing up of the investigation. For case reports, the author must have participated in the management of the patient.

Manuscripts should be typed double spaced.

Title Page: The page should contain the following:

  1. The title of the paper which must be apt.
  2. The names of the author(s). The surname is to be followed by initials. Academic qualifications are not required against the author’s name.
  3. The current address of the author(s).
  4. The name and address for correspondence.

 

Style: Use only standard abbreviations, where indicated. Scientific measurements should be given in S.I units except for blood pressure which should be expressed in mmHg. The use of proprietary brand names of drugs is discouraged except in reports of drug research, generic names should be used.

Illustrations: Illustrations and tables should appear each on a separate paper. Tables should not duplicate information given in the text of the paper. Photographs (Black and White) and radiographs should be submitted as glossy prints. Line drawings may be presented as glossy prints or good quality photocopies. Legends to illustrations should appear on a separate sheet. The top of each illustration should be marked with an arrow pointing upwards (?) on the reverse side. Due credit must be given to artists who are not authors and for any illustration borrowed from a published work. Colour illustrations are encouraged but the author(s) will be surcharged for their reproduction in the journal.

Original Articles: Articles must be arranged in the following sections:

  1. Abstract: This must be structured, not exceeding 200 words with the following headings: Background, Objectives, Design, Setting, Subjects, Methods, Main outcome measures (if appropriate), Results and Conclusions.
  2. Key Words: For indexing purposes, three to five keywords or short phrases must be written immediately after the abstract.
  3. Introduction
  4. Materials and Method
  5. Results
  6. Discussion
  7. Conclusion
  8. Acknowledgements: Only persons who had directly assisted during the investigation or in the preparation of the report need to be acknowledged. In addition, any source of external funding for the study must be explicitly mentioned.

 

Case Reports: Articles must be arranged in the following sections:

  1. Abstract: This must be structured with the following headings: BACKGROUND, CASE, CONCLUSION.
  2. Introduction
  3. Case
  4. Discussion

 

 References Top

References should be Numbered in the order in which they are cited in the paper (Vancouver Style). (International Committee of Medical Journal Editor. Uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals, Philadelphia, PA: ICMJE, 1993). See also: N Engl J Med 1991; 324:424-428 and BMJ 1982; 284:1766-1770.

The journal does not charge for submission and processing of the manuscripts.
